Amherst Ohio City Hall is located at 206 South Main Street, Amherst, OH 44001. Amherst City Hall is a historical building that was constructed using sandstone from local Amherst quarries.
The office of the Mayor of Amherst and his administrative assistant are located in the building (the Amherst Mayor is a full-time elected position). Additionally, City Hall is home to the office of the Clerk of City Council and the Safety Service Director (both part-time positions). Amherst City Council also holds regular council meetings and committee meetings in the council chambers located in the building.
The Amherst Ohio Police Station was once located in the City Hall building, but is now located on North Lake Street in a new facility. The second floor of auditorium of City Hall, which has a stage, gallery and large congregation area, is closed indefinitely for repairs and is no longer used.
